Welcome to St. Paul Lutheran Church

When we hear the word saint, most of us picture a statue — a stained-glass face with a halo, someone heroic and long dead and nothing at all like us. But when Jesus read out the blessed ones, no single impressive person was on the list. The poor in spirit. The grieving. The meek. The hungry. People who ran out of their own resources and kept coming back for mercy. If you were building a hall of fame, it's the worst roster ever written — because Jesus wasn't building a hall of fame. He was reading a family roster. And John tells us that crowd before the throne is one "no one could number." That means most saints have their names on no wall and in no book, nowhere except in the memory of God and the few who loved them. The uncanonized outnumber the canonized by an amount no one can estimate. That's who this day is really for.

So think of the one who handed you Jesus. Not a famous name — someone you actually knew. The person who prayed over real needs while you watched, whose worn-out Bible convicted you more than any sermon, who kept showing up long after they had every reason to stop. They're blessed not because they were good — you knew them — but because the Blessed One claimed them. Only one person lived every beatitude perfectly from start to finish, and He isn't on the list because He is the list. Jesus Christ is the only true Saint, and every other saint is one because they belong to Him. That includes the person reading this who keeps coming back with the same confession, wondering if it still counts. It counts. You're on the list — not the future you who finally has it together, but you, today. Go be a saint. You already are one.
